HOUSING

Tangentyere Council began offering architectural services to the residents of the Alice Springs Town Camps in the late 1970s. Through extensive consultation with the residents a variety of housing types and layouts were developed. These models responded to unique cultural requirements of the Central Desert Aboriginal people, for whom western style housing was a new experience.

Over the decades Tangentyere Design has remained involved in delivering a range of housing programs to Aboriginal Australians throughout the Central Desert region under the the National Aboriginal Health Strategy program and other Commonwealth and Northern Territory housing initiatives.

Tangentyere Design has remained committed to encouraging community engagement as a core component of architectural design and project delivery.
